Get Solar QuotesCheck Your Grant OptionsWhy solar suits hospitality
Hospitality businesses use electricity for heating water, laundry, refrigeration, kitchens, lighting and guest comfort, often from early morning to late at night. Solar generates during the day, which is when many of these loads run, so more of what you generate can be used on site.
Lower running costs
Generate part of your own power and reduce the electricity you buy from the grid. Savings depend on your usage and the system installed.
Hedge against price rises
Energy is one of the largest bills for most hotels and restaurants. On-site generation reduces exposure to future price changes.
A greener guest offer
More guests and event bookers ask about sustainability. Rooftop solar is a visible, credible step.
The new enhanced SEAI grant: up to 45% of your solar cost
Hotels, B&Bs, pubs, restaurants and other businesses can apply for the SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen Grant. For new applications made between 6 October 2026 and 6 July 2027, SEAI is paying up to 45% of the invoiced cost, to a maximum of €325,200. At many system sizes that is around double the standard grant offer.
SEAI pays the lower of the value in its grant table and 45% of your invoice. You must appoint a registered installer and sign a contract before you apply, and not start works until you have your letter of offer. Existing applications are not increased.

Plus tax relief: accelerated capital allowances
Irish companies that buy qualifying energy-efficient equipment can claim accelerated capital allowances under section 285A of the Taxes Consolidation Act 1997, writing the cost off against profits faster than normal wear and tear. Revenue confirmed in February 2026 that the scheme now runs to 31 December 2030.
Together, the SEAI grant and tax relief can cut the real cost of a commercial system a long way. Whether your equipment qualifies depends on its listing and your tax position, so check with your accountant and Revenue's guidance on accelerated capital allowances.

Hospitality solar FAQs
Can my hotel or B&B get an SEAI solar grant?
Businesses can apply for the Non-Domestic Microgen Grant. Your installer must be SEAI-registered and you must apply before works begin. Confirm current rules on seai.ie.
How big a system do we need?
It depends on your electricity use, roof space and shading. Installers assess this at survey stage.
Do we need a battery?
Not always. Batteries can help if you use a lot of power in the evening. Ask installers to quote with and without one.
Will solar guarantee savings?
No. Savings depend on usage, system design and electricity prices. Compare quotes carefully.
